: Does anyone know how high each of the funnels stood? I think that the Anatomy book said that they were 19 feet wide and 24 feet tall. This seemed too small to me. But what do I know? Also, besides the weight of the center anchor, what other errors might be in this or other Titanic books? Thanks!!

Hi Doug,
I'm not sur how big the funnels were, but I have found a disturbing inconsistency between "Anatomy" and the Discovery Channel book titled "Titanic: Legacy of the World's greatest Ocean Liner". Anatomy says Titanic carried 24000 to 26000 tons of coal (plenty for a round trip to New York and back it claimed) and used 5000 tons per day at 21 knots. This does not make sense, as if 5000 tons of coal were burned per day, 25000 tons would only last 5 days (a one way crossing). The Discovery Channel book says that on it's maiden voyage Titanic caried 5892 tons of coal, and burned 690 tons per day. BIG inconsistency! I tend to believe the latter, as 25000 tons of coal seems ike a lot in a 45000 to ship!

Regards,

Kurt
