To drill the portholes I used a rechargeable electric screwdriver fitted with a 1/4" chuck made for this purpose. The slow speed of the screwdriver is ideal. No blisters from holding a pin vice, no melting of plastic. Only problem was having to recharge the screwdriver repeatedly, but I'm sure this could be overcome by using one with a removeable battery pack.
: Oh the blisters Ive gotten on my fingers from spending hours with a pin drill and the amounts of plastic odors I've inhaled from playing with Dremel's to keep from spending hours with that pin drill.
: The best results Ive gotten:
: Hallow out all the portholes with the pin drill (have a lot more control over the tool than a Dremel).
: Paint the insides of the large portholes copper (no, I have no proof that there was copper seals around those portholes... just a little artistic lisence).
: Fill all the portholes with Aircraft Canopy Glue (or Testor's Window Glue, etc) to simulate the glass... you really dont see much of it but there's a hint of gleem of the "glass".
: Paint the inside of the model white... the white just barely shows through the now glued over windows but look a little better than a black window on a black hull.
