: Hi guys,
: Just sent away for my Tom's modelworks photoetch detail , wanted to know whether i should Paint the detail while its still on it's brass tree, or take each part off and then paint it SEPERATELY ???

Hayden,
I have found that the best way is to mask off the parts on the brass tree that you don't want to paint with a VERY LOW TACK masking tape or frisket, then spray paint them on the sheet. A very light misting of the parts will work well for you as too much will take away some of the finer points of the etchings and have a poor result. An air brush works best, but you can do it with a spray can if you hold it far enough away and go for long sweeping motions. The idea is to paint the parts, do any bending or shaping that you have to do, assemble them on the model, then go over and touch up any area with a thinned version of the paint with a good quality , soft bristle brush. Don't put too much paint on though. Just enough to touch up areas that the paint chipped off during bending or assembly. This process works best for me and I hope it helps you.
Regards,
'Jerry
