Hopefully the fact that we'll be the first ones in will allow us to "ponder" longer than you were able to. I do agree that they oversell the exhibits in a major way and that the museum needs help in general. I remember going to a special effects exhibit there many years ago. The first thing you came across was the queen alien from "Aliens". They had a narrow passage running next to it that fed into the main exhibit. Along the one wall of this passage, opposite the queen were plaques with photos and text showing how it was made. However, the employees would not allow you to stand and look at the queen without standing against the back wall! So not only couldn't I get a closeup view of it, but everyone was standing in front of the plaques!
I also managed to see another of RMST's exhibits in Memphis three years ago, and it was great. It was towards the end of the exhibit's run and on a weekday though. The fact that this will be Memorial Day weekend probably won't help, but I'm hoping the craze will have died down some by then.
By the way, I had a HECK of a time finding a parking place in the underground garage when I picked up the tickets. Of course it was a Saturday afternoon, so I had it coming. I agree that the museum is beautiful outside with the parking lots gone.
I have to say that I agree with Doug though. I'm looking forward more to the meeting Saturday night than the exhibit itself. There's gonna be lots to see there, and I can't wait to meet everyone face to face.
Since you live in the area, do you want to join us Saturday night? There's no requirement that you have to go to the show with us. Email me and I can get directions to the meeting place from Bruce.
